Included here are four pieces from a series of video works which began in 2014 with a commission from the National Railway Museum, York. Each sequence is the contemplation of a specific landscape condition that is articulated in a particular way by the passing of a train. The series reflects Cross’s life-long passion for railways and wider interests in place, historical narrative and the traditions of landscape representation.
Included here are examples from the original NRM commission and those produced during the filming of the documentary Ferroequinology by Alex Nevill and released earlier in 2021.
