ABOUT KENT FOUNDATION

Kent Film Foundation began as a not-for-profit arm of a film production company based in Thanet, Kent an area of high deprivation and where young people also suffer from "Poverty of Opportunity". A group of filmmakers attached a training element to a series of feature film shoots. This successfully fed talented young people through and into entry level film industry jobs, film school, universities and drama schools for those interested in careers in media. None of them had thought about what kind of work they might do and a number of them had little academic ability and for this reason the clubs also inspire young people to get more engaged with their local community and find jobs doing something they enjoy.

This inspired one of the filmmakers who had also grown up in poverty herself, into founding Kent Film Foundation in to an organisation with charitable status in the hope of hiring professional filmmakers to mentor young people in film workshops that would be FREE to participants.

Building confidence has also resulted in young people merely looking towards work as a positive part of life in itself and by the experience in arts projects in general, members have gone on to look at training in all kinds of trades and not just the arts. We have inspired as many young plumbers, veterinary nurses and electricians as we have film practitioners.

Since its inception the charity has an excellent and proven track record in achieving its outcomes. Most recently receiving a prestigious nomination in the Colyer Fergusson 50th Anniversary Awards in the category "Unlocking Opportunities"
