ECLIPSE is a film project on the aesthetics of censorship. Relying on a sum of both visual and textual documentation borrowed from the historian of censorship Laurent Garreau and related to the french cinema of the 1960s and 1970s, the film weaves the web of a mental space where the censor, cut images and official letters freely dialogue, in an attempt to give this legacy and these practice a poetic extension, as well as a perspective on the implications of the censor profession. It is to be seen as a freed essay on the gestures, manipulations and stories that censorship carries, while being resolutely turned on its plastic potentialities.
Directed by Gwendal Satre, Gilles Ribero and Noé Grenier.
Gwendal Sartre, filmmaker and artist, works from different narrative forms essentially through images. From the ties that weave between women and men, he draws layers of archaic stories as if they were already molded in forms. His work has been presented at the FID in Marseille, FNC in Montreal and at the FIAF Institute in New York. Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille, joined Le Fresnoy, national workshop, in 2014.
