Repose by Reece Thomas

Solitude drenched in melancholy. Repose harks back to early childhood fears, instilled and developed through adolescence, manifesting in adult anxiety. Synthesised rhythmic loops are reminiscent of the artist’s memories of a looming clock tower which once stood over him in a seaside town he called his childhood home. Repose is a desperate search for meaning and understanding in a world that offers none. It is a despairing search for solace, and a journey of discovery - inviting the listener to take time in this moment, to be, to reflect and let go. Reece Thomas is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores, and attempts to make sense of, themes surrounding death, anxiety, depression and coping. Previous works span sound art - including ambient electronics, harsh noise and cassette tape manipulation; analogue collage; and audio-visual installations. Writing and performing under the moniker Alocasia Garden for six years, and more recently as Intertidal Waters and Gladden Fields, Reece has composed over thirty releases for national and international record labels. Founder of Vanity Pill Tapes, Reece has facilitated fifty releases for artists and musicians around the world, across physical and digital mediums. As well as curating interdisciplinary exhibitions in his current town of Folkestone, Reece has also exhibited and performed at venues and festivals across the UK and Europe.
