During lockdown Smith has been quietly constructing a series of new performances. These were made in regular workshop sessions with Ash McNaughton and Lise Boucon joined by John Woolrich and Paul Cheneour. These began in September 2020 and continued after the December lockdown in March 2021.
This evening we present two world premieres, a double-bill, Mirror Mirror and command>control>shift. In Mirror Mirror, the main sound source is the composition Two6 by John Cage. Both pieces reflect Smith’s interest in with the work of Cage, Cunningham, Rauschenberg,Nauman, Pina Bausch, Anne Teresa Keersmaekerand Samual Beckett.
The work also reflects Smith’s interest and connection with the British performance art of the 70s and 80s including Theatre of Mistakes, Station House Opera and Gary Stevens.
Mirror Mirror is with Ash McNaughton, Lise Boucon, Sarah April Lamb, Rubiane Maia and Randolph Matthews and Command Control Shift with Gary Stevens
The work was made possible by the provision by Creative Folkestone and the Quarterhouse to provide free use of the auditorium and dance studio.
