Strangelove is changing. We are developing into an on-going project with events, projects and screenings throughout the year. There will always be a building based element annually. We have presented Strangelove since 2015 and presented programmes in London, Margate, Brighton, Dunkirk & Folkestone. This year will be fully online, and we are developing ideas as we go along.

PLAY | PAUSE | STOP | REWIND is our new look and new way to visit, watch and engage with the festival. During each programme, you can watch the films at anytime at your leisure. There will also be a chance to catch up with films from previous programmes and also browse works from our other festivals within our rewind section. You can check out our other rooms and see what artists, film-makers, composers and others are talking about and watching.

This year, our online festival kicks off on Monday 1st June and continues until the 5th July. In July, we are planning to host a special month of material focusing on performance, dance & music. Throughout August, we will present our open-call submissions across the month. These will be announced over the coming weeks. Keep scrolling for a more detailed breakdown of what’s coming up.

PROGRAMME

The screenings programme goes live from June 01/ starting with documentary

We are taking strangelove into a new territory by mounting a year long festival. Kicking off with an online version of the postponed festival that we had planned. We have invited Abigail Addison, James Collie, Jamie Wyld, Chris Meigh-Andrews and Tony Grisoni to curate screening programmes for Animation, Documentary, Video Art, Experimental Film and cinema kicking off from June 1st 2020 with Documentary.

Each section will be live for one week and then selected films will be available in our rewind section so you can catch up with anything you missed.

We will also be screening works from previous festivals as well as works from specially invited guest selectors and artists.

Open Calls

We are launching eight open calls through Freeway. Selected films will be shown during the online festival, and mainly, throughout August within our special open-call feature month.

Talking Shop / Rewind

Talking shop is the place where you can scan Strangelove’s hosted talks, teachings & shared experiences from previous festivals. New material will continue to be added from discussions held in this years edition. Our Rewind section allows you to visit past favourite works, as well as catch up on films shown from June 1st & throughout the 2020 cycle of prorgrammes.
