Frieda Ford
SHE (2020)
In SHE abstract found beauty imagery, text, and audio ASMR beauty routines are combined with the artist’s own footage of private, ritualised actions. It is presented as a cult like obsession with the ultimate secret that unlocks the potential for the idealistic and objectified body which is, in itself, trapped in representational means. Through depicting ritual and gossip as myth making in film and performance, a new narrative is created which can influence, destabilise, and manipulate our perception of the ideal body.
Frieda Ford specialises in film and performance using green screening, costumes, and the repurposing of imagery and sound to create fictional, surreal landscapes that interrogate socially accepted myths about the body in relation to feminism and queer theory. She graduated with a BA Hons at Edinburgh College of Art after a foundation diploma at the University of Creative Arts, Canterbury, and has hosted community engagement workshops in various locations around Kent, including the Turner Contemporary and the Horsebridge Arts Centre. Frieda has also created two multimedia exhibitions with another artist in Faversham and Margate (2018 and 2019).
