Sophie Dixon

Mind is an ethereal sea, which ebbs and flows; which surges and washes hither and thither, carrying its whole virtue into every creek and inlet which it bathes. To this sea every human house has a waterfront. But this force-creating nature, visiting whom it will, withdrawing from whom it will, is no fee or property of any man or angel. It is as the light, public and entire to each, and on the same terms.” Emerson.

The Shore was created during an intensive ten-day workshop at the London Film School under the mentorship of artists Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth (20,000 Days on Earth). Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and funding from the Mohamed S. Farsi Foundation.

Sophie Dixon is a cross-disciplinary artist. Less interested in portraying an historic truth, her work explores the connections between events across time – an attempt to open up the spaces between the experience of an event, and our later interpretations of it. Sophie has an MA (Cum Laude) from the Netherlands Film Academy and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Kent University, UK. She has undertaken residencies in the UK and Europe and has exhibited in solo and group shows, including at the EYE Film Museum, Amsterdam, and the Turner Contemporary, UK.
